Description: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a program of studies designed to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States. The survey is unique in that it combines interviews and physical examinations.

Population: Nationally representative sample of ~5,000 people per year.

Periodicity: Data collected in 3 prior phases (1971-1974, 1976-1980, 1988-1994), before becoming a continuous survey in 1999.  Data available for all previous collection periods up to 2017-2018.
