Abstract: 

The National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH) investigates the causes and consequences of changes in American family and household structure.

Population:The sample includes a main cross-section sample of 9,643 households plus a double sampling of African Americans, Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans, single-parent families and families with stepchildren, cohabiting couples, and recently married persons.

Periodicity: Data collected and available for the three waves of the study: Wave One (1987-1988), Wave Two (1992-1994), and Wave Three (2001-2003).
