Abstract:

Description: The U.S. Census Bureau's Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) program provides annual estimates of income and poverty statistics for all school districts, counties, and states. The main objective of this program is to provide estimates of income and poverty for the administration of federal programs and the allocation of Federal funds to local jurisdictions. In addition to these federal programs, state and local programs use the income and poverty estimates for distributing funds and managing programs.

Population: Based on models using data from IRS income tax returns, the Current Population Survey, population estimates, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) administrative data. Gives annual estimates of poverty and income for total population at state, county, and school district levels (also gives estimates of numbers of children in poverty, ages zero to 18).

Periodicity: Data available for the following years: 1989, 1993, 1995-2017.
