Abstract:
Description: The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) is a voluntary national data collection and analysis system created in response to the requirements of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (Public Law 93-247) as amended.
Population: States report child-specific (of children zero to 17 years old) data for state child protective services investigated reports of maltreatment. In 2005, an estimated 899,000 children were victims of child abuse/neglect.
Periodicity: Data collected continuously every year. Data available for 1990-2017.
